Definitions

Protest

An expression of disapproval in public.

Violence

Using actions that threaten or harm people or their property.

Peaceful protest

A form of protest that does not involve violence. It is usually legal in most countries, but illegal in some, like North Korea.

Violent protest

A form of protest that uses violence. It is illegal in most countries.

Terrorism

The use of violence (usually against innocent civilians) to incite fear or achieve a political goal.

Pacifism

The belief of people who refuse to take part in and discourage war and violence.

Peacemaker

A person who works to establish peace in the world or certain parts of it.

Engaged Buddhism

A movement in Buddhism that is particularly concerned with applying the Buddha's teachings to matters of social and environmental injustice.

Peacemaking

The act of trying to establish peace.

Conscientious objector

A person who for reason of conscience objects to complying with a particular requirement, especially serving in the armed forces.

Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD)

A weapon designed to kill or harm a lot of people at once.

Nuclear weapon

A bomb or missle that uses nuclear energy to cause an explosion. It is a weapon of mass destruction.

Prisoner of War (POW)

Somebody who has been imprisoned by an enemy in war.

Multilateral disarmament

When all countries remove their nuclear arsenals.

Unilateral disarmament

When one country removes their nuclear arsenal.
